Lacy Kendrick, CFRE
Vice President of Financial Development
YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City
Member since 2022
Why did you join AFP?
I joined AFP to be a part of the collective wisdom and creativity the network brings! There is always more to learn and I appreciate the resources provided and ideas shared.
What is the most exciting thing about the work you do at your current organization?
I love being a part of a global movement, while making incredible impact in the local community. The YMCA has a huge network of passionate, dedicated individuals, all seeking to transform their communities. I get to help make that happen by securing the financial resources needed to keep programs and services at low or no cost for families and individuals.
How did you find your way into fundraising?
I was told by a Development Director that I would be excellent at it...so I gave it a try! Now I'm over a decade in and truly love the relationship building and impact I get to share with people all over the state.
What is special about the people who give to your organization and/or the people with whom you work?
At the Y, we believe that we are one of the last places where people from all walks of life can come together and build healthier spirits, minds, and bodies, with no stigma or judgement. Our donors and staff all bring different areas of passion, whether it's physical fitness, youth development, senior programming, or family stability...we have a place for everyone to invest in their community!
What advice do you have for new professionals joining the community?
Meet all the people, attend all the conferences, and be a sponge of learning about nonprofits in general. The more you know about governance, compliance and general structure, the more valuable you can be for the duration of your career. Also, keep learning about yourself: what are your strengths, leadership style, communication style, what energizes you? Stay true to your values and always stand up for yourself!
What is something that few people know about you?
I'm a classically trained singer, mezzo soprano to be exact! I've been singing since I was three and competed at the state level in Texas all through high school. These days I jam out in the car or from the church pew, but music has always been what moves my soul.
Where do you most like (or want!) to travel?
My favorite vacations are either a cruise or Disney World. Give me a good book and a pool or some awesome Mickey ears and bottomless popcorn...I'm super lucky I've gotten to do both in 2025!
