Presenters:

Elizabeth J. Dale, Ph.D., is the Frey Foundation Chair for Family Philanthropy at the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University. A former development director and Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), her research includes social justice philanthropy, giving among women and LGBTQ+ donors, and the intersection of identity and giving. She has published and presented her research nationally and internationally and has provided commentary for The New York Times, Forbes, and The Chronicle of Philanthropy. She holds a Ph.D. in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.


Michelle Flores Vryn, CFRE is a frontline fundraiser with 15+ years leading both development and communications teams. She co-founded the AI Equity Project, the Staff Impact Staff Retention research project and the CCF Texas Chapter. Michelle frequently writes and speaks on building healthier nonprofit systems and serves as the Vice Chair of Professional Development on the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Global Board of Directors.


Maya Hemachandra (she/her) has made it her life’s work to create champions for social change. Her career in the nonprofit sector spans more than 20 years, raising millions of dollars in philanthropic and volunteer support for anti-poverty organizations. She is the owner of Sambar Nonprofit Solutions, which helps nonprofits align their leadership, strategy, and fundraising approach with their values. She holds an MPA from the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance, an IPA from Daylight Advisors and a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation.
