Topic: The Donor Database: The Root Cause of Your Problems, But Not for the Reasons You Think
The nonprofit donor database is critical to the success of any philanthropy fundraising team. In theory, a highly functional database managed strategically should inform us of which donors we should be visiting with and why, how successful our strategies for various appeals and events are and give our donors confidence through thoughtfully executed stewardship programs.
Problems with the donor database are a common theme in the nonprofit industry. We know that the quality of donor data varies widely from organization to organization. It is the root cause of many issues your organization is facing. Reports are inaccurate, communication challenges exist between departments because of information conflicts, donors may be unhappy because you’re still calling them “Friend” after 20 years, and so much more.
The donor database is the root cause of a lot of problems in your organization but not for the reasons you think. Sasha R. Lewis, CFRE is the CEO of Moves Management Consulting and has spent over 20 years in the nonprofit industry with half of it spent in internal data operations roles and the other half as a major gifts fundraiser.
This SNAP session will share insights Sasha has learned after spending two decades fixing donor databases. Participants will be able to identify common issues impacting many donor databases. Not all of them are about the database! Attendees will also be introduced to concepts to address database issues so that the root cause problems can finally go away.
