PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Happy New Year!

Exciting advancements are planned for our local AFP chapter in 2019! As a result, our chapter meeting launch is delayed until February…Tuesday, February 19 to be exact.

I’m thrilled to share our new AFP chapter board and the many changes we have in store for this year. We are committed to expanding and improving our critical work in championing our numerous community needs in our region. All of these changes are to make us a community of ethical, informed and connected fundraising professionals.

I am humbled and honored to work with the following dynamic slate of AFP board members which includes seven new board members and many new board positions:

  • Amy Millis – President-elect
  • Teri Amerine – Immediate Past President
  • Shirin Assemi – Treasurer
  • Mike Ford – VP Education
  • Cara Perrachi-Douglas – VP Membership
  • Jackie Moreno – VP Communications
  • Song Vang – VP Resource Development
  • Michele Cantwell-Copher – Programming Chair
  • Kelvin Alfaro – I.D.E.A. Chair (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access)
  • Rico Guerrero – Scholarship Chair
  • Alene Mestjian – Marketing/Social Media Chair
  • Charity Tokash – Advocacy Chair
  • Jasmine Atkins – Young Professionals Chair
  • Hollie Slater – National Philanthropy Day Chair
  • Mona Cummings – Mentoring Chair
  • Vanessa Hanley – Member-at-Large

We also welcome our new chapter administrator, LuAnn McCaslin.

Aligning with our commitment to better engage our members, we have more committee opportunities available for all AFP members. And as we all know, committees are only as good as its members…so we encourage you to join at least one committee. 2019 Committees include:

  • National Philanthropy Day
  • Finance
  • Scholarships
  • D.E.A. (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access)
  • Programming
  • Communications

In an effort to enhance our monthly chapter meetings, in addition to our monthly speaker(s) and topics, we will spotlight one of our 2018 NPD Honorees at each meeting and present an Ethical Moment. Plus, all of our chapter meetings will qualify for CFRE continuing education credits for your own personal career advancement.

We are moving up the nomination process for National Philanthropy Day. Please think about your donors and volunteers and nominate them as possible honorees to make this year’s celebration more vibrant than ever! But plan early as our nominations deadline will be June 30 which is much earlier than past years.

All of these changes in the board structure, chapter meeting format, NPD nominations, and chapter administration have led to the need for us to cancel our January chapter meeting in order to provide the most quality and enhanced chapter meeting.

Our first chapter meeting will be “Women Impacting Women” and feature the work of PINC and CCWC. We hope to see you on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 12:00 pm at Pardini’s.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, November 13 for our largest celebration of the year, National Philanthropy Day.

Changes have also occurred at AFP IHQ as they launched an update website last fall. The AFP site has been greatly improved not only online but is also now… mobile friendly. The updated website has impacted our local chapter page which we are working to update. Watch for our new site in the coming weeks which is easily accessed by searching “AFP Global CA Valley”. The key word in your search will be AFP Global followed by our chapter name-CA Valley.

Your support and participation are of the utmost importance to our chapter and we appreciate your patience and understanding for allowing us to kick off our chapter meetings for 2019 in February.

We are eager to share our changes with all of you and wish you an incredible 2019!

Tricia Holt
2019 AFP CA Valley Chapter President
