  • National Philanthropy Day Awards Announced

    The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), West Florida Chapter, proudly announced recipients of the 2019 National Philanthropy Day awards during its annual luncheon held at the Pensacola Yacht Club this past Friday. Nearly 200 attended the luncheon to honor and celebrate award nominees and winners.

    • Rob (posth.) and Judie Zitzewitz were named the 2019 Outstanding Volunteer Fundraisers of the Year. This award is for individuals with a proven track record of ongoing, significant time and commitment for one or more organizations.
    • Karoline Barkley was named the 2019 Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy of the Year. This award recognizes services by an individual or a group of young people ages 10-23 who demonstrate outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering and leadership in philanthropy.
    • Gulf Power Foundation was named the 2019 Outstanding Charitable Foundation of the Year. This award honors a family or business foundation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support, innovation, encouragement, and motivation of others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and national, international and/or community involvement.
    • United Way of West Florida was named the 2019 Philanthropic Service Organization of the Year. This award recognizes a community-based organization that is not otherwise connected to a foundation or business, whose grant programs, donations and charitable activities significantly enrich the community.
    • Hill Kelly Dodge and Ascend Performance Materials were both named the Philanthropic Businesses of the Year. This award honors a corporation or business in Northwest Florida that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support, encouragement, and motivation of others to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community involvement.
    • Julian and Kim MacQueen were named the 2019 Philanthropists of the Year. This award recognizes exceptional generosity and civic responsibility demonstrated by significant financial contributions to charitable organizations in the community. 
    • Sally McConnell (posth.) was named the 2019 Outstanding Fundraising Professional of the Year. This award is given to a fundraising professional of at least five years and have been involved in the Association of Fundraising Professionals Chapter, shaping and molding not just their nonprofit of employment, but the profession as a whole.

The AFP, West Florida Chapter, has held the National Philanthropy Day Awards locally since 1990.   • National Philanthropy Day Nominees Announced

    Winners will be awarded during the annual luncheon

    Pensacola, FL (September 20, 2019) – The Association of Fundraising Professionals West Florida Chapter proudly announces the nominees for the 2019 National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon.

    Several individuals and organizations were nominated for their philanthropic efforts including: Ascend Performance Materials, Karoline Barkley, The Birthday Party, Michele DuMond, Gulf Power Foundation, Hancock Whitney Bank, Hill Kelly Dodge, Innisfree Hotels, International Paper, Andrea Krieger, Northwest Florida Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Kim and Julian MacQueen, Sally McConnell, Melba Bayers Meyers Charitable Trust, Valerie and Ray Russenberger, Michelle Salzman, Santa Rosa Energy Center, Scott Westmark & Associates Allstate Agency, Studer Community Institute, United Way of West Florida, and Rob and Judie Zitzewitz

    All nominees will be recognized and winners announced during the annual luncheon at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15 at the Pensacola Yacht Club, 1897 Cypress St. Reservations are now open at https://community.afpnet.org/afpflwestchapter. Tickets for the luncheon are $35 for AFP members and $45 for non-members until Nov. 9. Walk-ins will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for $50 per person. Sponsorship opportunities and tables are also available.

    In celebration of the nominees and their work, there will be an after-hours social at Studer Community Institute, 220 W Garden St, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12. All nominees, guests and community members are invited to attend.

    The 2019 National Philanthropy Day Nominations are now OPEN! Submit your nominations here.

    National Philanthropy Day is a special day set aside on the fifteenth of November. The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy and those people active in the philanthropic community to the enrichment of our world. 


    NPD was originally conceived of and organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s, and the first official events held in 1986 after President Reagan signed the official NPD proclamation. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible. NPD celebrates the endless daily contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions. 

    Last year, more than 130 AFP chapters held NPD events and activities across North America.
