Chamberlain Scholarship Program

Each year, AFP International offers the Chamberlain Scholarship Program to assist outstanding AFP members who have never before attended an AFP International Conference. Each chapter is invited to select one Chamberlain Scholar.

The AFP Greater Detroit Chapter's Chamberlain Scholar recipient will attend the AFP International Conference in Baltimore, MD, March 29 – 31, 2020.

To qualify, you must be an AFP Greater Detroit member in good standing for at least three years, employed as a fundraising professional, never attended an AFP International Conference, and agree to complete an online evaluation about your experience at the conference.

Chamberlain Scholarship recipients receive a two part scholarship: 1) AFP Global covers the cost of registration for AFP ICON minus a $10 processing fee and 2) $1,000 from the AFP Greater Detroit Chapter to cover travel, hotel, and transportation costs.

Please note that the application process has been closed for the 2020 Chamberlain Scholarship.  Be sure to check back in August to apply for the 2021 Chamberlain Scholarship.

Congratulations to AFP Greater Detroit's 2019 Chamberlain Scholarship recipient!
MiVida Burrus, MBA

Attending the AFP ICON conference in San Antonio, Texas, April of 2019 was one of the best experiences of my fundraising life! I am so grateful to my AFP chapter and colleagues for nominating me for this scholarship and providing support so I could attend.

As the chair of our IDEA committee I had the awesome opportunity to attend a pre-conference workshop with Tanya Odom and learned so much about diversity and realized how much work needs to be done. This experience taught me that the work that we do as fundraising professionals is important and needed. I realized that philanthropy is truly for the passionate. The conference was exhilarating and exhausting as there were so many workshops to attend but not enough time to attend them all!

My greatest takeaways from this experience were my new friends in fundraising; the new ideas I brought back to my office; and my renewed love for what I do every day. It dawned on me that my role in my organization is valuable and necessary as we strive to help others reach their goals. Being at ICON let me know that I have friends, colleagues, partners and professionals that will help me think differently about my strategies; look harder for new opportunities; and keep my passion in the midst of it all!

Thank you Greater Detroit Chapter for sending me to ICON and helping me to learn, grow, and lead!

All the Best!
