Why did you join AFP?
I joined AFP to connect with other fundraising professionals, share best practices, and continue growing in Development. I value the opportunity to learn from colleagues, stay current with trends in philanthropy, and build a network of peers who are equally passionate about advancing their organizations and making an impact in the community.
What is the most exciting thing about the work you do at your current organization?
The most exciting part of my work at Oklahoma City University is helping connect donors with opportunities that directly impact our students. Whether it is a scholarship, a new program, or support for our faculty, I get to see generosity transformed into real change. It is inspiring to work alongside passionate students, faculty, and alumni, and to know that each partnership I help build strengthens both OCU and Oklahoma City.
How did you find your way into fundraising?
I came to fundraising through my background in the arts and arts education. After years of working with students and seeing firsthand how resources shape opportunities, I was drawn to the idea of connecting people’s passion for education and the arts with the funding that makes it possible. Fundraising was a natural extension of my work; still mission-driven, but focused on building the support that allows students and programs to thrive.
Share a favorite donor impact story:
One of my favorite moments was introducing a donor to a program they did not know much about. They had supported OCU for years, but when they met the students and faculty in this area, they immediately saw the difference their impact would make. A few months later, I saw those same students perform, knowing their work was possible because of this donor connection. It was a reminder that fundraising isn’t just about dollars, it’s about creating relationships that transform both the student experience and the donor’s passion to make an impact.
What is special about the people who give to your organization and/or the people with whom you work?
What makes our donors and colleagues so special is their deep belief in the power of education to change lives. Supporters who give to Oklahoma City University aren’t just writing a check, they are investing in students’ futures and keeping culture alive in OKC. The team I work with share that same passion. We have a genuine sense of teamwork and purpose that makes it feel like we are all pulling in the same direction, which makes the work incredibly rewarding.
What surprised you most when you joined the profession, or your current organization?
What surprised me most was how much of fundraising is about building genuine relationships rather than asking for support. Donors want to be part of a story and they often give because of the trust and connection they feel to the Oklahoma City University mission. At OCU, I have been pleasantly surprised by how passionate our supporters are about the arts and how eager they are to share their own stories and connections. Making it feel much more like a partnership than a transaction.
What advice do you have for new professionals joining the community?
Remember that you have chosen a profession rooted in hope and generosity. Every day, you get to be a bridge between someone’s passion and the change they want to see in the world. Lean into curiosity, listen deeply to people’s stories, and trust that relationships grow with authenticity and patience. This work isn’t just about raising funds, it is about sparking possibility, nurturing dreams, and leaving a legacy of impact. You are part of a community that believes in making the world better, one connection at a time.
Share a book, movie, or musical artist who inspires you:
For me, Leonard Bernstein has always been a source of inspiration. His ability to bridge the worlds of performance, education, and community resonates deeply with my own journey. Bernstein didn’t only conduct music, he connected people to its meaning and showed how the arts can transform lives. That same energy fuels my work in fundraising by helping people see how their generosity creates harmony, builds opportunities, and leaves a lasting legacy.
How do you spend your free time when you’re not working?
I spend my free time outdoors, cooking, enjoying music or arts, and making memories with my son, Corbin, he’s the best part of my day.
What is something that few people know about you?
Few people know that I’ve conducted and taught music internationally, which has given me unique perspectives on how to enhance teamwork and creativity.
What are your favorite foods?
I love pasta, grilled/roasted meats, and Mexican food. I’m always up for trying new recipe or inventing flavor combinations.
Where do you most like (or want!) to travel?
I can’t wait to travel to Mexico. The busy city of CDMX or the quiet coast, I'd take both. Either way the amazing food, vibrant culture, and stunning scenery make it to the top of my bucket list.
Share a little about your family.
Corbin, my son, is the center of my world! His curiosity and spirit inspire me every day. I treasure time with family and friends, from quiet dinners at home to fun outdoor adventures. These connections keep me grounded and remind me what is important on this journey.
