Why did you join AFP?
I joined AFP as a way to continue learning and growing as a fundraising professional and to connect with others in the field.
What is the most exciting thing about the work you do at your current organization?
The most exciting aspect of my work at The Nature Conservancy in Oklahoma is getting to know our amazing donors who are passionate about nature and helping them support vital conservation work that, in turn, makes our shared goals a reality.
How did you find your way into fundraising?
My first job out of college was in alumni relations at my alma mater in Nebraska. It was a great training ground in public relations, writing, developing relationships and working strategically. Many alums approached me wanting to make gifts, and after 11 years in my role, I made the leap to the university foundation as a director of development for two colleges. Thinking back on it now, I probably stayed too long in my first job, but it provided me with incredible opportunities to grow, try out new ideas and learn from people who continue to be mentors for me today.
What is special about the people who give to your organization and/or the people with whom you work?
The passion our donors and our staff have for nature and conservation is incredibly inspirational to me. Their hearts are in the right place...they truly care about our natural world and want to be part of the solution.
Where do you most like (or want!) to travel?
So many places! My bucket list includes France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Scandinavia, the Galapagos Islands, the Tetons, autumn in New England, Turks and Caicos and the seven US states I haven't visited yet.
Share a little about your pets, family, or friends.
My husband, Jason, and I have twin daughters, Paetyn and Piper, who are juniors in college. We also have a Boston terrier, Dr. Zeus, who is 14 years old and specializes in playing fetch and napping.
