About Our Chapter & Leadership

The world is a better place because of fundraisers, plain and simple. Fundraisers inspire Canadians to give every single day and AFP – our Greater Vancouver Chapter and AFP Global are here for you! The impact of philanthropy is all around us, including but not limited to:

  • Fostering more inclusive and stable communities through social services and housing
  • Enhancing health and care through hospitals and health charities
  • Emergency relief and ongoing development in times of natural or human-created disasters
  • Enriching society through art, religion, education and culture
  • Creating opportunity and brighter futures through education and environmental protection

Philanthropy is a way for people to connect to their core values, and fundraising is a critical part of the philanthropic process.

CN3.pngThe Greater Vancouver Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals represents nearly 400 active members with Chapter activities downtown and in the Fraser Valley. Founded in 1996, we support members by offering innovating and inspiring professional development, a mentorship program, book club and the much-anticipated Giving Hearts Awards.

We gather together annually in November to celebrate philanthropy with our professional colleagues, donors and friends to be inspired, to learn and to celebrate the good in our community. Speakers at National Philanthropy Day have included The Honourable Janet Austin, Dr. Chief Robert Joseph, Dr. David Suzuki, Dr. Samantha Nutt and a long-list of inspiring Canadians.

Chapter’s purpose

Our Chapter’s purpose is to inspire philanthropy in our community. Our goal is to be the professional organization of choice and pre-eminent voice for all fundraisers in the Lower Mainland and beyond. We are one of three Chapters in BC – Vancouver Island and the Okanagan. The core activities through which AFP fulfills this mission include education, training, mentoring, research, credentialing, and advocacy.

AFP will be the recognized leader in the promotion of philanthropy by empowering fundraisers to serve humankind throughout the world.

2019AFPFriendsOfDiversityLogo.jpgDiversity is a mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, cognitive abilities, beliefs, and cultures as assets to the organizations with which they interact. The mosaic includes differences in race, national or ethnic origins, colour, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic status, age, language, mental ability, and physical ability. These differences are acknowledged, celebrated and respected by the AFP Greater Vancouver Chapter and its members, for inclusion and equity within the association.
