Ethical standards and principles are the foundation of donor and public trust. AFP upholds these values through the only enforceable code of ethics in the fundraising profession and a self-governed process for addressing ethical concerns.
To promote stewardship, donor trust, and ethical, effective fundraising, all AFP members are required each year to sign and comply with two foundational standards: the Code of Ethical Principles and Standards and the Member Code of Conduct.
The Code of Ethical Principles and Standards provides clear guidance for fundraising professionals working in philanthropic organizations, while the Member Code of Conduct establishes behavioral expectations that promote integrity, professionalism, and respect throughout the AFP community.
Both codes are supported by an enforcement process managed by the AFP Ethics Committee and are highlighted annually during AFP Ethics Awareness Month in October.
