The Citadel Foundation - Associate Director of Development, Collegewide Initiatives

  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Associate Director of Development, Collegewide Initiatives, is part of The Citadel Foundation’s (TCF) development team and is dedicated to identifying, meeting, and qualifying prospects who have the potential to support the institution but have not yet been deeply engaged. The primary goal is to build a bridge between our constituents and The Citadel through face-to-face discovery visits. The position requires extensive travel throughout the United States.

CLASSIFICATION:
Exempt 

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Executes strategy to discover, identify, qualify, and solicit potential prospects in support of The Citadel Foundation by matching The Citadel’s strategic priorities to a prospective donor’s interests
  • Works closely with the Prospect Management team, school-based fundraisers, class reunion campaign team, and annual giving team to expand the donor base and build a robust pipeline for major gift support for The Citadel
  • Raises funds for all schools, units, programs, and priorities by soliciting gifts of $25,000, and higher
  • Develops, directs, and implements pre-qualification strategies for lead annual gift and major gift prospects through discovery calls, personal visits, virtual engagement, and email
  • Assists in the strategy and execution of solicitations
  • Manages a dynamic portfolio of prospects with interest across the college
  • Identifies opportunities and coordinates strategies to broaden the prospect's relationship with the college through additional engagement with institutional partners
  • Maintains data integrity of prospect records, including timely entering and updating contact entries, next steps, and strategic donor plans and proposals according to established protocols
  • Works with offices across campus to coordinate related activities that further The Citadel's mission and achieve fundraising goals
  • Works with staff to engage all alumni to advance the percentage of active involvement and increase alumni donations
  • Displays good judgment and confidentiality
  • Coordinates fundraising with other departments such as the Chaplain, Commandant, the Zucker Family School of Education, and The Citadel Graduate College and utilizes services as appropriate
  • Develops engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to acquire major gifts;
  • Undertakes extensive travel as required to fulfill job responsibilities
  • Adheres to annual budgets and annual performance metrics
  • Performs other pertinent and appropriate duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education; advanced degree preferred
  • Three (3) to five (5) years’ minimum in fund development, preferably in a higher education setting, including demonstrated success in major gifts solicitations and academic or athletic fundraising
  • Thorough knowledge of fundraising principles
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Motivation to travel extensively in the fulfillment of duties
  • Enthusiasm and excellent people skills are essential; successful candidates must have flexibility to handle the demands of a fast-paced work environment and the individual needs of donors
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and to lead and motivate others 
  • Ability to work effectively with other staff members, campus representatives, students, and volunteers
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge, RE NXT, Concur, Pledgemine software
  • Familiarity with The Citadel and an affinity for its mission and values
