Emerging Leaders in Fundraising

Nonprofits today face complex leadership challenges, from evolving workplace dynamics and retiring senior staff to financial pressures and changing donor behavior. To succeed, organizations need strong, visionary leadership at all levels.

This course is designed for fundraising professionals with 4+ years of experience who aim to step into leadership roles. Participants will learn how to project executive presence, navigate organizational structures, build trust, expand networks, and think strategically — skills essential for guiding their organizations to success.

Taught by experienced leaders from the AFP Massachusetts community, this two-day, in-person program will equip you with the tools to elevate your career and your organization’s impact.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the differences between leadership and management
  • Sharpening communication skills for managing up and down
  • Building awareness of the organization’s culture and impact
  • Leveraging the power of persuasion within internal and external networks
  • Becoming more of a strategist and less of a tactician
  • Recruiting and empowering diverse teams
  • Nurturing your team to be high-performing, and effective

The format of the program includes presentations, readings, group exercises, and guest appearances.

The course is typically offered once a year, in the spring. Check the chapter events page for upcoming dates.
