9/26/2018: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Campaign Planning
Diane Dukette, Chief Development Officer at Cooley Dickinson Health Care has orchestrated multiple campaigns ranging from $500,000 - $132,000,000. In this session she will provide some step-by-step suggestions to campaign planning. Starting with project selection and pre-campaign awareness building, we will proceed through the different aspects of developing a plan and campaign timeline, including a do-it-yourself feasibility and planning study which will gain stakeholder buy-in and test your campaign projects. Three different formulas for setting the goal will be reviewed. The session will offer tips for prioritizing your work time and planning for post-campaign. We will discuss campaign challenges including some hard-knock lessons from the field.

10/24/2018: Annual Members Meeting followed by Education Program: Case Study: Is Phonathon Really Dead or Another Viable Part of Your Fundraising Plan

Phonathons are still an important way for many organization to raise funds, though they may no longer be the major part of an organization’s development plan that they were in the past. Join our speaker Maria Held, Director of the Smith Fund at Smith College, as she talks about how phonathon has evolved at Smith College during her 17-year tenure, and how it continues to be a viable component of Smith’s fundraising plan, raising $500,000 from 20% of the donors that make up their $12.5 million-dollar annual-fund income stream. Maria will share Smith’s recent journey with phonathon, its benefits, how it can be used for acquisitions, and to engage both students and lower-level donors in philanthropy. She will also share ideas and best practices that both small and large shops can use when dialing for dollars.

Maria Held is the Director of The Smith Fund at Smith College, where she oversees the college's annual giving programs. Her 17-year career in annual giving includes work on print and digital appeals, phonathon, a robust class agent and reunion giving program, and student and young alumnae fundraising. She is an active member of STAFF (Sharing the Annual Fund Fundamentals) and holds a Bachelor in Finance and an MBA from The University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

During this hands-on workshop you will learn skills to help you "say it better," whether "it" is a pitch, a presentation, a proposal or something else entirely. She has have over fifteen years' experience helping people at Fortune 100 firms make their point in writing and presentations so that they deliver strong messages, inspire action, and demonstrate leadership.

2/27/2018: Prospect Research on a Dime
The focus of philanthropy must be relationship-building that is customized to the needs and desires of the donor. Individuals have different motivations for and patterns of giving. The more you know about potential donors’ motives and how they like to give, the better positioned you are to make effective solicitations. Prospect research is one way to learn more about your potential donors.
Researching prospects and gathering information doesn’t have to be an expensive endeavor. There are great resources right on your computer and our own Springfield City Library is a part of the Foundation Center Funding Information Network, a nationwide network of libraries, community foundations, and other nonprofit agencies which provides visitors with free public access to grantmaker directories, books on fundraising and nonprofit management, and the Foundation Center’s electronic databases.

The up-to-date AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course is designed to address the real-world needs and challenges nonprofit organizations face every day. Recognized as the international standard for the fundraising novice, the AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course offers a complete overview o the development function, featuring the most current information and techniques. The 16-hour program includes case studies and projects for groups and individuals, making the learning experience both substantive and enjoyable. All participants will receive learning materials and course books. This intensive program will provide an overview of skills, techniques and program components for the individual with up to 4 years of fundraising experience.
