Fundraising is a shared responsibility, but that doesn’t mean every board member needs to be a fundraiser. This session will explore how nonprofit professionals can move beyond the expectation that boards should “go raise money” and instead engage board members in meaningful, realistic ways that strengthen relationships, expand networks, and support a healthy culture of philanthropy.

Dr. April Willis is an award-winning nonprofit strategist, speaker, author, and founder of April Willis Consulting, a two-time Longhorn 100 company. With a doctorate, three master’s degrees, and decades of board service, April brings a unique blend of academic expertise and hands-on leadership to her work with nonprofits. Her service has ranged from a former school board president to serving as President of the Southlake Rotary Club and currently as Treasurer of the Southlake Women’s Club. April is also a Forbes Coaches Council member, TEDx speaker and organizer, and founder of both the National Nonprofit Collaborative and The Willis Scholarship, now in its ninth year. Her work is driven by a passion for equipping nonprofit leaders with practical strategies and resources to build stronger, more sustainable organizations. When not working, you can find her volunteering at local elementary schools with her certified therapy pup, Kingsley, trying new restaurants with her husband, Matt, or working out with Camp Gladiator.
