Johnston Group is known for strengthening communities through leadership, mentorship, philanthropic giving and service on a variety of boards and committees. Johnston Group’s financial support of Manitoba charities is vast including significant gifts to a variety of organizations supporting youth programs, health centres, community development, entrepreneur support, major sporting events, education, animal welfare, charities and many others.

Johnston Group has made an incredible impact in Manitoba through its charitable efforts. For years, it has been a key United Way of Winnipeg supporter through an employee campaign that ranks among the city's most successful. This past year, Johnston Group's campaign raised nearly $400,000 and garnered over 90 per cent participation from their staff members. Johnston Group generously matched its staff and retiree donations, which made a remarkable difference in our community by offering long-term, stable funding for over 100 United Way Winnipeg donor-supported agencies and programs in our city.

At the Assiniboine Park Conservancy, Johnston Group’s support has been integral to the Imagine a Place Campaign; it was among the very first to pledge its support for the campaign in 2010. Their gifts were crucial to the revitalization of the Park, which added the Nature Playground, Qualico Family Centre, an expanded Riley Family Duck Pond, and to the completion of the Zoo's award-winning Journey to Churchill exhibit.

Johnston Group’s support of the Women Build program with Habitat for Humanity Manitoba has had a direct impact on the lives of low-income Winnipeggers. The program also benefits women in our community by introducing them to construction and encouraging them to take on leadership roles on the site through mentorship and training.

Johnston Group's philanthropy also advances the overall health of Manitobans. For decades, they have supported the Health Sciences Centre Foundation and Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, enabling advancements in research, improved care facilities, and better outcomes for patients. In fact, the Children's Hospital says Johnston Group's support makes miracles happen. As a senior staff member says, "When we have a need to fund specialized equipment or support programs and world-class research we know Johnston Group will be there as they have been for more than 25 years. They are inspirational, caring and a world class community partner."

In Winnipeg's Point Douglas neighbourhood, Johnston Group helps Graffiti Art Programming to enrich the lives of young people through community art studios and training. The sponsorship enables Graffiti Art Programming to pilot innovative new programs and expand existing successes that are geared to the needs of children in its neighbourhood.

By supporting the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Johnston Group plays a key role in helping our province's vibrant arts scene. Their investments enable Royal MTC to continue to share stories that enlighten, challenge and heal the human spirit. Johnston Group and family also spearheaded the commission and installation of the now-iconic Hirsch and Hendry statue located outside Royal MTC's box office.

Employees of Johnston Group are highly encouraged to get involved in community engagement through both philanthropy and volunteerism, and this shows in their regular donations of time and talent to a variety of community organizations. From walking with Winnipeg's Bear Clan Patrol, to delivering Christmas hampers, running clothing donation drives, building homes with Habitat for Humanity, and so much more, Johnston Group staff make a huge difference in our community.

Johnston Group was nominated for the Outstanding Contributions to Philanthropy (over 100 employees) Award by the Assiniboine Park Conservancy.
