Something as simple as “pork on a bun” can make a big difference. For Manitoba Pork Council, it’s only one of their many philanthropic initiatives that make them an outstanding organization. Countless pounds of pork have been donated by the Manitoba Pork Council for its charity barbecues and the Council has also given charitable donations to dozens of organizations in Manitoba, supported various agriculture in the classroom initiatives and has provided scholarships.

The Manitoba Pork Council contributes to vigorous and healthy communities in Manitoba. Every year, the Council provides funds to each district for charity and donates at least one tonne of pork to feed individuals living in poverty. In 2018, it served more than 7,000 pork-on-a-bun at fundraising events, in support of organizations including Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, and United Way.

For 30 years Manitoba Pork has supported University of Manitoba students, researchers, and their learning spaces. In addition to their support of annual student prizes and bursaries, Manitoba Pork made a significant gift in 2011 to help establish and develop the Bruce D. Campbell Farm & Food Discovery Centre (FFDC) in Glenlea, MB. The FFDC is Canada's first hands-on facility demonstrating food production from farm to fork. Manitoba Pork has also provided annual support to the FFDC to enhance exhibits and programs, helping to draw greater numbers of visitors each year.

Manitoba Pork supports a range of charitable organizations. Over the past few years these have included: STARS Air Ambulance, Health Sciences Centre Foundation, United Way Winnipeg, Winnipeg Harvest, Samaritan House Ministries (Brandon), Southeast Helping Hands (Steinbach), Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation, Habitat for Humanity Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg Research Consortium.

Manitoba Pork donated food sales to Healthy Start for Mom & Me, which supports pregnant women and their families. It also supported the Goldeyes Field of Dreams Foundation for children's charities and in 2014, it provided canned meat to Mennonite Central Committee for international hunger relief.

One of their partners is Siloam Mission, a humanitarian organization that helps the less fortunate in Winnipeg. Since 2011, Manitoba Pork has provided a cash donation and one tonne of fresh and processed pork annually to the mission. In 2016, they supported the Make Room campaign, enabling the mission to buy a new walk-in cooler, a crucial asset in preparing over 500,000 fresh meals annually for hundreds of clients.

Manitoba Pork has given charitably to Red River College for three culinary scholarships; Assiniboine Community College (Brandon) and academic prizes at the University of Winnipeg. Finally, Manitoba Pork provides funds to Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba, a non-profit organization promoting agriculture. Staff and board members voluntarily deliver curriculum-based programs, activities and resources for teachers and their students to learn more about agriculture.

Manitoba Pork Council was nominated for the Outstanding Contributions to Philanthropy (under 100 employees) award by the University of Manitoba.
