Meet Jeffrey Davitt, Senior Director of Development at Flagler College who has been in the non profit sector for 17 years!

Q&A

  • I am passionate about fundraising because….
    • I received a scholarship to attend college and I know firsthand how that extra help can make a world of difference.  I also feel good about helping others and sharing with supporters’ different opportunities to match their passion with our mission.
  • What is your favorite thing about being an AFP member?
    • I love having a network of professionals that I can look to for advice and help in the field.  It’s helpful to have friends who have had similar challenges and opportunities within this work and having the opportunity to bounce ideas and thoughts off of them is very helpful. I have also greatly enjoyed the educational opportunities that help me stay on top of the latest fundraising trends and statistics. Finally, I enjoy managing a collegiate chapter of AFP at Flagler College.  This chapter helps students learn about the nonprofit sector and fundraising as a career.  Since starting this chapter in 2012, dozens of graduates have become fundraisers.
  • What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter our field?
    • Don’t be afraid to take chances.  You may think that reaching out to a prospective donor will be a long shot but if you put in the time and make a thoughtful ask, it often pays off.  I always like to remember that if you “Don’t ask, you don’t get”
  •  What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?
    • After 12 years of applying for tickets, I won the lottery to purchase tickets to the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA in 2022.
  • What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
    • Positano, Italy (where an upcoming family reunion is being hosted)
  • What is the best book, TV show or movie you’ve consumed in the past year?
    • The Green Book a 2018 movie about a working-class Italian-American nightclub bouncer that becomes the driver for an African-American classical pianist on a tour of venues in through the American South in the 1960s.
  • What’s one item you can’t live without?
    • My golf clubs
  • If you were a hashtag what would you be?
    • #golfing
