Sara is passionate about fundraising because it is truly a privilege to help connect donors to a mission and work that is meaningful to them. I feel fortunate to have a career where I can build relationships and get to know people in our community while working for such a worthwhile cause.
How many years have you been in the nonprofit sector?
What is your favorite thing about being an AFP member?
I love the network of peers AFP provides. Fundraising can be challenging, and having a supportive network to celebrate successes, and share advice, ideas, and resources, is invaluable.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to enter our field?
Fundraising is such a unique and rewarding career – you get to learn a variety of skills and every day is different. I’d encourage anyone starting in the fundraising sector to listen to mentors and others who have been in the field and learn as much as they can through reading, educational programs, conferences, and conversations with others.
What’s something about you that not many people know?
I grew up playing softball and my dad was my coach. All we did was play softball! (Year-round, in the dark, all the time…). I was a pitcher through my freshman year of college, and I think it helped me to build a strong work ethic and a teamwork mindset that has benefitted me later in life.
What’s the next place on your travel bucket list?
Italy and Croatia! And I’d love to go scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands. My list is always a mile long!
If you were a hashtag, what would you be?
#happy or according to Dave, #AnyDayYouSeeADolphinIsAGoodDay
