Committee Spotlight - Marketing

AFP-NJ is governed by a volunteer board of directors. One of the Board’s responsibilities is forming a range of committees toplan and carry out the important work of our Chapter. It is in specific committees where our dedicated fundraising colleagues volunteer to make it happen for all of us in AFP-NJ!
So what are these committees? What do they do? How can I help? Glad you asked…
In each newsletter, we will feature a different AFP NJ committee and offer insight into what they do and opportunities to get involved. Committee members are vital to delivering relevant and supportive services to members.

Visit our website to learn more about our current committees:

We kick off the inaugural AFP-NJ Quarterly with a spotlight on the Marketing Committee. This inaugural newsletter was created to achieve several of the Marketing Committee’s goals and objectives. We hope it will be a source of value to you.

Board Member George Hayes chairs the Marketing Committee. An AFP-NJ member since 2009, he is Chief Fundraising Consultant with GTH Consulting and brings years of leadership, development and advertising experience to AFP NJ.

Other members are: Melissa Biggar, Daniel Deliberato, Janis Blayne Paul, Melissa Pepin, Sandy Pinto, and Dana Zissman.

Each committee member brings unique marketing experience and a wealth of knowledge to share, including: strategy, web design and video, creating compelling content, social media, graphic design, and media relations, data analysis and promotion.

Initial meetings in 2021 focused on establishing committee goals and objectives. To do so, we started by evaluating current marketing practices for the AFP NJ chapter. We looked at current membership, demographics, and how events and opportunities have been communicated and shared. That helped shape best practices to implement going forward.

Based on members’ input and collaborative discussions, an overall marketing strategic plan with specific goals and objectives was created to guide the work of the committee and include:
  • Engage current members,
  • Attract new members/increase membership- focus on underrepresented segments,
  • Support and promote chapter events,
  • Identify opportunities,
  • Share issues of importance/relevance
Overall, the aim is to create awareness for AFP-NJ: To inform our membership and those affiliated with and interested in the fundraising profession of who we are and what we do.

To that end, we want to know what is important to you so that we can meet your needs:
  • What tools do you need to thrive in today’s philanthropic environment?
  • How to you prefer to receive information? Share information?
  • How often do you want to hear from us?
  • What do you hope to achieve by joining?
  • What motivates you to get involved?
Please share suggestions, thoughts and your expertise to help ensure we are relevant and a valuable resource. And do get involved.

Your voice matters!

As an AFP member, you can play a vital role in advancing AFP principles and the growth of the NJ Chapter. When you participate, volunteer your time and talents, and share info and opportunities with colleagues, you help ensure our sustainability and everyone’s advancement in the profession.
