Oregon has become a global wine mecca. With so many vineyards and wineries, why commit to one without at least sampling a flight, checking out the location and views, ordering the charcuterie board, and getting to know the staff? The same should be true for a donor when identifying the best organization to fulfill their philanthropic vision. Is the goal to sell one bottle? Or is it to establish a lifelong member who will bring their friends to join as well? This presentation will discuss how to approach a test gift and establish the most “fruitful” relationship with a new donor. We will share case studies from the $2 billion ONWARD OHSU campaign, including stories from the historic Knight Cancer Challenge, that highlight how development officers can earn the trust of donors and their professional advisors throughout the lifecycle of a test gift. It will also kick off with a 5 minute legislative update in the beginning of the presentation.
