Join us on May 17th for networking and education featuring local nonprofit development leaders discussing the modern fundraising challenges facing our sector. Moderator, Javier Wolmeldorff, Associate Vice President of Major and Planned Giving at The Evergreen State College, will lead the discussion as our panelists delve into key topics and share insights to help navigate the complexities of fundraising in the South Puget Sound. 

During the event, we'll explore pressing questions and topics such as:

Bios:

Javier Wolmeldorff is the Associate Vice President of Major and Planned Giving at The Evergreen State College. He previously served in various nonprofit and public positions including teaching, human resources, administration, and now fundraising primarily in education. He’s been in development more than ten years, starting as a one-person shop before moving into major and planned gifts. He currently leads the major and planned giving team at The Evergreen State College as they get ready to finish their first comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Equity and identity are important to Javier, and he’s led/facilitated various workshops. His interests include making the work of development more equitable, and he’s co-led policy work and workshops on race, and harassment. Javier is a current Co-Past President of AFP-Advancement Northwest, and Chair of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Committee.

Javier holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Western Washington University and a master’s degree in International Relations from University of Denver.

Dr. Amanda Walker serves the University of Washington Tacoma as Vice Chancellor for Advancement. As a proud Washingtonian with a deep-seated belief in the transformative power of higher education, she is honored to collaborate with Chancellor Sheila Edwards Lange, the entire University of Washington Tacoma community, and the University Advancement team to build a bright and promising future for students and the region.

Amanda brings over two decades of experience leading fundraising, discrete and comprehensive campaigns, communications, and engagement in higher education and non-profit organizations. Prior to joining UW Tacoma, Amanda served Purchase College (State University of New York) as Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Executive Director of the Purchase College Foundation and Charitable Entities.

Previously, as Vice President for Advancement at The Evergreen State College and Executive Director of Evergreen’s Foundation, Amanda led efforts to raise private funds, seek grants, engage alumni, and steward support. An enthusiastic advocate for Evergreen’s innovative, inclusive mission and commitment to students, she built the institution’s capacity for inspiring philanthropic support.  Amanda holds a PhD in Education from University College London. She is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE).

Emily Mendez-Bryant, Tacoma Community College Foundation Executive Director, guides the college’s fundraising strategy efforts and serves as the college’s philanthropy executive. Prior to joining TCC Foundation, she was the Chief Development Officer at United Way of Pierce County where she built an impressive network of connections and relationships, and played a critical role with its Annual Campaign and successful milestone Centennial Campaign.

Emily was born and raised in Seattle, and is known for her warm Aloha spirit (she lived in Hawaii for 14 years), strong collaboration with teams, and her deep commitment to the mission of the work. She possesses the ability to be a strategic thinker and has met or exceeded organizational fundraising goals, as indicated with her long track record of success. She has diversified revenue and supporters and has developed key relationships with many of our communities of color.

Emily earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Washington and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She is a Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy from the American College of Financial Services.

Victor Martin, Vice President for University Relations for the University of Puget Sound, holds an MBA and B.A. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He is a member of the boards of directors of the Institute for Religion, Education, and Public Policy, and the Kegley Institute of Ethics. He has more than 15 years of experience in campaign management and fundraising for nonprofits, and has played a key role on teams that have raised more than $350 million.

Prior to his nine years of service at CSU Bakersfield, he directed feasibility studies and fundraising campaigns for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation, Lions Clubs International Foundation, Adventist Health Bakersfield Foundation, and the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
