Chapter Connection Newsletter Banner

Dear Fellow AFP Members and Not-for-Profit Colleagues,

This will be my last newsletter message as President of AFP Nova Scotia. Please join me in giving a warm welcome to our Chapter’s incoming President, Heather Strickey. She and the rest of the AFPNS Board will be officially voted in at our AGM on June 8th. Fortunately, I’ll still be working with this fabulous group of humans for another year as Past-President.

Our Members and volunteers that are the heart and soul of AFP. Our Membership numbers are steadily coming back to pre-COVID levels, locally and globally. We are grateful to you and our sector leaders for recognizing the value AFP provides. Membership has been especially important to stay connected with colleagues and friends as a community during this monumental time of social upheaval.

I am grateful and humbled to have been a part of such an amazing group of volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in our sector, our communities, and our profession. My deepest and heartfelt thanks to our Board and committees.

Let’s gather together on June 8 and 9 to share, learn, make new friends and new memories at the Maritime Fundraising Conference. Please say “Hey, how’s it going?” in the Chat feature or at one of the Group Networking Sessions. I encourage you to introduce yourself to Heather, our other Board Members & volunteers, and the other Conference delegates.

I hope to see you soon. Until then, take good care.

A Message from Global Philanthropic Canada, #MFC2021 Presenting Sponsor

The New Way Forward. What does that mean for fundraisers?

No question we are living in extraordinary times. And the very essence of the non-profit sector has undergone powerful and likely long-lasting change. So how do we use those changes to our advantage?

Firstly, it’s the responsibility of fundraisers and non-profit leadership to pivot our approach to fundraising and to connecting with the donors for whom we can create lasting impact. That means harnessing technology and other methods, in new and creative ways, to stay connected when physical distancing is still an everyday restriction.

Next, the new way forward includes being on the lookout for opportunities presenting themselves through this pandemic and ensuring your leadership is made aware of such opportunities. Now is NOT the time to pump the brakes on your fundraising efforts. Rather, it’s the time to gather momentum and lay the groundwork for a brighter future. That includes developing a realistic and comprehensive fundraising plan you can implement successfully.

Finally, the new way forward includes being brave, being bold and being prepared. Giving is greatest when the need is highest, and now is that time. Help your donors demonstrate their compassion and support by giving them opportunity to support your mission. Don’t assume donors don’t want to give now. Our responsibility as fundraisers is to bring life to opportunities which show our donors we’re prepared for the new way forward.

We are proud to present the Maritime Fundraising Conference in partnership with AFP Nova Scotia. We hope you come away with lots of great ideas to expand and leverage your new way forward.

2021 Fraser Green Scholarships

AFP Nova Scotia is pleased to partner with our keynote speaker, Fraser Green, Chief Strategist at GoodWorks, to offer registration scholarships to the 2021 Maritime Fundraiser Conference. Our common goal is to assist those who might not otherwise be able to attend through financial pressures or other barriers, including supporting racialized, marginalized, and other underserved communities.

Conference attendees experience inspiring education sessions, learn new skills, increase confidence in their work, and grow their networks, bringing skills and knowledge back to the organizations and communities they support. We are stronger together.

You do not have to be currently employed, in the non-profit sector or otherwise, or be a Member of AFP to apply. Deadline for submission: Wed, June 2, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
