ABOUT CROUSE HEALTH: Crouse Health is a not-for-profit organization serving Central New York. In operation since 1887, Crouse is licensed for 506 acute-care adult beds and 57 bassinets, and serves more than 23,000 inpatients, 56,000 emergency services visits, and more than 600,000 outpatients a year from a 16-county area in Central and Northern New York. 


Crouse Health has been caring for generations of families for more than 130 years. Crouse offers a full range of general and specialty care, inpatient, and outpatient services and community health education and outreach programs. Throughout more than a century of changes, Crouse’s vision has always been to serve the community. 


The Crouse Health Foundation plays a key role in raising funds through community events that help promote Crouse Hospital as a major healthcare provider in the community. The Foundation also stewards the institution’s endowment, with a market value of approximately $30 million. 


THE OPPORTUNITY: The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) is a newly established role, designed to lead and grow philanthropic support and donor engagement for Crouse Health. A key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CAO plays a critical role in advancing the Crouse mission and long-term financial sustainability. 
In close partnership with senior hospital leadership, the CAO will oversee the advancement program for the Hospital and the Crouse Health Foundation, providing strategic leadership for all philanthropic initiatives including annual giving, major and principal gifts, foundation and corporate gifts, donor prospecting and stewardship, and future comprehensive or special campaigns.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic frontline fundraiser with a demonstrated track record of securing major gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations, and leading successful campaigns. They are a hands-on team player who thrives in a healthcare setting, excels at building and nurturing strong relationships, and consistently exceeds performance goals. 


The CAO reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer of Crouse Health, Seth Kronenberg, MD, and works closely with the Hospital and Foundation boards. Reporting to the CAO is a team of 7 including the Director of Advancement Operations, who is a direct report. 


FUNDING: The Hospital has a current annual operating budget of approximately $609 million; the Foundation’s annual operating budget is $2 million. Philanthropic revenue for 2025 was approximately $2.6 million. 


IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS:  
 A genuine interest in the Crouse Health mission. 
 Successful record of accomplishment in advancement/development leadership in a major not-for-profit organization, preferably healthcare related. 
 Demonstrated ability to cultivate and steward relationships with high-net-worth individuals and their 
representatives, foundation program officers, corporate leaders, and others. 
 Frontline major gift fundraising success. 
 Working knowledge of current innovations in fundraising techniques and philanthropy and an ability to translate those innovations and techniques into action. 
 Superior communication and presentation skills; the ability to articulate a compelling case for support. 
 Demonstrated ability to build, manage, and lead a team, cultivate talent, and to ensure an inclusive culture. 
 History of working effectively with board members. 
 Familiarity with the local and regional philanthropic communities. 
 Able to serve as a credible external ambassador for Crouse Health and to communicate the power of philanthropy to diverse audiences. 
 Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. 


The annual compensation range for this role is $250,000-$300,000 commensurate with experience and accomplishments plus attractive benefits.
