Let's get to the "Real Stuff" - How to communicate your way through the 7 levels of communication intimacy and truly KNOW people' In this session Kate will introduce you to the 7 Levels of Communication Intimacy and demonstrate just how important it is to understand the navigation of these levels in Fundraising/Development. Kate will demonstrate how these skill's have been used in Kate's professional and personal life to build lasting relationships that are much more than surface level. The presentation will be interactive, fun and engaging as we walk them through each level- and learn how to build trust. Kate's goal is that each participant will gain confidence in their own style of interactions and have a greater understanding of the benefits of knowing other humans on a deeper level. Attendees will earn 1.0 CFRE Credit. Members: $10 / Nonmembers: $30

Based on recent doctoral research at Columbia University and a decade of working with nonprofit boards, this session will explore how board members learn to become impactful leaders in nonprofit organizations, while developing fruitful relationships with peers and staff. The session will start by presenting major findings of this research i.e. motivational factors of board members in seeking a board role and reasons for contributing to the nonprofit; how seasoned board members describe the challenges they face as nonprofit leaders and how they overcome those challenges. We will conclude with effective strategies to empower board members. Learning outcomes include: Understanding board members' needs and wants, practical ways of approaching challenges with board members, and suggested strategies of empowering board members to give.
