Mentorship Program

AFP OKLAHOMA MENTORSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

You have a new position in the profession, a donor database, some professional development courses under your belt, and endless enthusiasm, but you have never asked for a donation. One of the ways you can enhance and develop your skills is building a relationship with an experienced professional fundraiser.

You are an accomplished fundraiser with nearly a decade of experience in the field, you have just accepted a position as a Director of Development, and for the first time, you are managing a fundraising program. While you are comfortable asking for donations, you have yet to master the art of managing people. You could benefit greatly from a relationship with a professional fundraiser who has management and leadership experience.

You are a seasoned fundraiser with many years of experience. You have seen it all and done it all and perhaps you think there isn’t much more you can accomplish. It’s now time for you to teach the next generation of fundraising leaders all you know so that the non-profit industry remains strong. Additionally, learning never ends and there may still be something you’ve not experienced. You would benefit from mentoring a less-experienced fundraiser and perhaps from building a relationship with a true fundraising master.

Regardless of your level of experience, you aspire to be a great fundraiser. Volunteers, donors, and the general public are concurrently seeking to raise the standards and expectations of the professional fundraiser. It is essential to the growth of the profession that seasoned fundraisers guide and advise less experienced fundraisers. It is important that newer fundraisers share new ideas and new ways of thinking with their more seasoned counterparts. These practices maintain high standards and facilitate effective and ethical fundraising.

When fundraisers contact AFP Oklahoma about membership and benefits, one of the first questions asked is, “How can AFP support me in my career as a fundraiser?” The AFP Oklahoma Mentorship Program is designed to support and encourage fundraisers of all experience levels by utilizing the experience and leadership of the Chapter’s Members.
