National Philanthropy Day (NPD), recognized on November 15 and celebrated by AFP chapters throughout the month of November, is a day to honor the impact of philanthropy and those who work to make a difference in their communities and around the world. It’s a time to celebrate the countless ways individuals, nonprofits, businesses, and communities come together to create lasting change through generosity.
NPD was founded in the 1980s by philanthropist and fundraising professional Douglas Freeman, with the first official celebration taking place in 1986, following a proclamation signed by President Ronald Reagan. More than just a celebration, National Philanthropy Day is an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving—and to acknowledge the vital role that philanthropy plays in improving lives and strengthening communities every day.
National Philanthropy Day Los Angeles will be held on Friday, November 6, 2026 from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Location to be announced. Visit 2025 National Philanthropy Day to relive the moments of our event.
