The Chamberlain Scholarship program honors Ralph E. Chamberlain, CFRE. Mr. Chamberlain had a long and distinguished career of service to the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), beginning in the 1960s when the organization was formed as the National Society of Fund Raisers (NSFR), through the late 1970s when the name was changed to the National Society of Fund Raising Executives (NSFRE), and until his death in 1999.

HOW SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS ARE DETERMINED

The Scholarship Committee views favorably on an applicant’s own personal financial commitment toward the educational program for which s/he is applying for a scholarship. Both full and partial scholarships may be awarded. The Committee also looks favorably upon applicants who volunteer on AFPLI committees and the recipient is required to volunteer if a scholarship is awarded.  Scholarships are limited to registration fees and may not be used for travel, hotel or meal expenses.

The Scholarship Committee of AFPLI makes all decisions regarding awards. Their decision is based on a review of the required application materials, which include an application form, personal statement (which clearly expresses why the applicant or his/her organization cannot pay the fee) and letter(s) of reference. In some cases, a telephone interview may be requested.
