Diversity - From the Board Room to Volunteers - September Educational Program

When:  Sep 19, 2023 from 06:00 PM to 07:30 PM (ET)
Associated with  AFP NY, Long Island

We've come a long way with diversity - or have we?

From the board room to staffing to volunteers in your organization, diversity matters.

Join us on September 19 when our speaker is Jackie Duodu-Burbridge, an outstanding speaker with extensive experience who has spent her entire career building strategic relationships with donors, community leaders, corporate and government entities, and community members in order to increase the quality and accessibility of services for populations in need, in the fields of racial equity, civic engagement, special education, housing and healthcare.

The 90-minute workshop aims to educate participants about the importance of racial equity in philanthropy and provide actionable strategies for partnering with Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) nonprofits to enhance programmatic impact.

BIPOC led nonprofits are typically helmed by leaders reflecting the rich diversity of their communities.  These nonprofits often have deep roots within the communities they serve, making them well-positioned to address community-specific needs and challenges. Despite their vital work, BIPOC led nonprofits often face resource constraints and funding disparities compared to mainstream organizations, making financial support and partnerships crucial for their sustainability.

Participants will gain insights into the systemic issues facing these organizations and explore ways to make their philanthropic funding and collaborative efforts more inclusive and equitable.

As an accomplished frontline fundraiser who believes in the need to decolonize philanthropy and increase trust based philanthropy, an activist, organizer and systems disruptor, Jackie has over two decades of experience leading the development efforts of multi-million dollar non-profits and raising millions in investments for organizations such as ERASE Racism, Working Families Party, the Education Trust - NY and Long Island Community Foundation, as well as building strategic relationships with funders.

Along her journey, she has earned certificates in Nonprofit Development and Management from the Association of Fundraising Professionals; Advocacy from the National Urban League; Leading in Community at Adelphi University; a fellowship with New York Education Trust’s Parent Fellowship Program. Jackie holds an MBA from Hofstra University’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business and a BA in English from Spelman College.
