Scholarships



Both the AFP Oregon & SW Washington Chapter and AFP Global are pleased to offer scholarships that support professional growth for individuals pursuing careers in philanthropy. If you meet the eligibility requirements for multiple scholarships, you are welcome to submit an application for more than one opportunity. 





AFP International Conference Scholarship: Chamberlain Award and Chapter Travel Award 

Complementary Registration for AFP ICON + $500 Travel Stipend | 1 available

This scholarship covers the registration fees for the AFP International Conference (AFP ICON) for a first-time attendee. AFP Oregon & SW Washington members receive priority over non-members, but all are welcome to apply.

The 2025 Chamberlain Scholarship was awarded in January of 2025. The deadline to apply for the next Chamberlain Award is January 17, 2026.

Eligibility criteria:
  • Candidate is employed as a fundraising professional or, if candidate is an executive director, a substantial amount of time must be devoted to fundraising.

  • Candidate has never attended an AFP or NSFRE International Conference on Fundraising as a registered participant (unless as a member of the Conference Host Committee) and is enthusiastic to attend the full conference as scheduled. 

  • Candidate must agree to complete an online evaluation form about his or her experience at AFP ICON.

  • Only one individual from any local organization or institution may be selected.

  • Candidate must be willing to share their AFP ICON experience with their chapter after the conference has concluded.


Diverse Communities in Fundraising Member Scholarships

As an inclusive community, AFP Oregon & SW Washington seeks, embraces, and engages individuals, groups, and organizations with a broad representation of experiences, perspectives, thoughts and cultures within the fundraising profession.

AFP Oregon & SW Washington is pleased to be able to offer scholarships to individuals from underserved or marginalized communities who are pursing careers in philanthropy. This scholarship is paid as a reimbursement to offset the cost of a full annual membership.

The deadline to apply for the next round Diverse Communities Scholarship is June 15, 2025.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Fundraising professional who self identifies as coming from an eligible underrepresented community as defined by AFP Global (African-American/Black, Asian, People with Disabilities, Faith-based, LGBTQ, Hispanic, Jewish, Rural, or another underrepresented community).

  • Employed as a full-time fundraising professional or actively looking for employment in not-for-profit fundraising.

  • Fundraising professional or fundraising executive director employed at an organization where 50% or more staff members are from a marginalized community, as defined above.

  • Work for a nonprofit organization that serves clients where at least 50% of individuals are from an underrepresented community.

Lapsed Chapter Membership Dues Scholarship

We want you back! AFP Oregon & SW Washington is pleased to be able to offer member scholarships for professional fundraisers whose membership has lapsed in the last three years. This scholarship is paid as a reimbursement to offset the cost of a full annual membership.

The deadline to apply for the next round of Lapsed Chapter Membership Dues Scholarship is June 15, 2025. 

Eligibility requirements:

  • Applicant must be employed by a 501(c)3 organization, is between jobs in fundraising or is independently consulting in the philanthropy space.

  • Has been previously been an AFP member between and lapsed between 2019 and 2024.

Urban League Scholarship for Black Fundraising Professionals

AFP Oregon & SW Washington is proud to partner with Urban League of Portland, one of Oregon’s oldest civil rights and social services organizations, to empower African-American/Black philanthropy leaders through community building and engagement.

Thanks to support from Urban League, we are excited to be able to offer scholarships to individuals from Black communities working in philanthropy. This scholarship is paid as a reimbursement to offset the cost of a full annual membership.

 

The deadline to apply for the next round of Urban League Scholarships is June 15, 2025.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Fundraising professional who self identifies as African-American/Black.

  • Employed as a fundraising professional or actively looking for employment in not-for-profit fundraising in Oregon or SW Washington.
