AFP NL Chapter Board of Directors

Active members of AFP-NL are eligible to serve on the Board of Directors. Any chapter member may make nominations to the Board. Your participation in this process will help make our Chapter stronger and more responsive to the needs of our members and the province’s non-profit community. 

General Duties of the Board of Directors:

The Board of Directors of the Chapter shall manage, supervise and control the business and affairs of the chapter; be vested with powers possessed by the Chapter itself including the powers to: determine the policies of the chapter; collect and disburse the funds of the Chapter; adopt such rules and regulations for the conduct of its business; supervise the affairs of the Chapter between Chapter meetings; have the power to fix the dates, times and places of its meetings. The term of office begins on July 1st for one year, renewable for one year in the same position.

Expectations/Requirements of a Board member:

  • Be current members of AFP
  • Attend and actively participate in at least 70% of scheduled Board meetings and Professional Development sessions.
  • Make a contribution to AFP’s Every Member Campaign.

AFP NL Board Structure:

In addition to the traditional Board roles (President, Treasurer, Secretary etc.), all other members are directors responsible for participating on committee(s) that include:

We need volunteers for the following committees:

Governance Committee

Chaired by the President-Elect the Governance Committee is tasked with ensuring that AFP Newfoundland and Labrador board of directors is functioning appropriately and efficiently while fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities. 

Finance/Audit Committee

As a subcommittee of the Board of Directors to assist in the implementation of Finance initiatives, specifically to ensure the proper oversight, protection, and financial management of AFP NL assets and liabilities. Ensure and oversee that AFP NL assets, including policies associated with safekeeping and protection of those assets; oversee the management of AFP NL investments, including review of investment policies, use of external investment managers, and other matters associated with investment management. Offer expertise and feedback, as requested, in order to ensure the Board can carry out decision making in alignment with AFP NL core values

Member Relations Committee

The purpose of the Members Relations Committee is to create opportunities for a diverse and inclusive membership to participate in sharing ideas and innovations in fundraising while providing guidance in recruitment, retainment, and engagement activities highlighting the benefits of AFP membership.

Professional Development Committee
Is continuing education important to you? The Professional Development committee helps to plan topics and speakers for our education sessions. This committee aims to empower AFP Members and organizations to practice ethical fundraising through professional education.

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee ensures the visibility and awareness of AFP NL Chapter to the members, government officials’ prospective members and the public in multiple formats. Responsible for Marketing, Communications, Government Relations and National Philanthropy Day (the one-day event that raises awareness and support of Philanthropy)
