Each November, AFPKC celebrates National Philanthropy Day and the generosity of our city. As part of this celebration philanthropists young and mature, corporate and individual, professional and volunteer are recognized at a special event. This year we are excited to have the Mid-America Charitable Gift Planners join AFPKC in this celebration as we present a new award - Legacy Giving Partnership.

Dr. Marjorie Williams

Dr. Marjorie Williams, or Dr. Marj, as she is known, is the embodiment of the Spirit of Philanthropy. She is deeply committed to the children and youth of Kansas City and continues to set a high standard of volunteerism and philanthropy in the African American community. Her work with Hickman Mills School District, The Links, Generation Rap, Bruce Watkins Cultural Heritage Center and Museum, Negro league Baseball Museum and Sisters’ Circle of Greater Kansas City, to name a few, will leave an unmistakable impression on Kansas City today and beyond.

JE Dunn isn’t just a cutting edge construction company with deep roots in Kansas City; this business has set the stage for all other Kansas City businesses to give back as they have demonstrated a Spirit of Philanthropy. Propped up by their guiding principles, JE Dunn and their employees “do the right thing” by “serving others.” By establishing the Dunn Family Foundation, committing more than ten percent of its pre-tax revenue to charities, engaging more than 150 executives on nonprofit boards and empowering employees to serve their communities, JE Dunn has built and are building better communities.

George Whitehill is young at heart, but mature in his understanding of giving back. George’s dedication to HappyBottoms has be uplifting. At Mind Drive and the STEM community he has inspired people worldwide to help children with mobility alternatives. He has taken time to teach hundreds of local youth about STEAM. George has demonstrated a philanthropic maturity and exemplifies the Spirit of Philanthropy – Youth award.

Bill Gann, a native Missourian, devout educator, published author, lifelong learner and dedicated genealogist, can add generous giver to his list of achievements. As a gesture of his commitment to music education, his legacy will endure for years to come. The Legacy Giving Partnership award demonstrates a lifetime of enduring charitable commitment.

Sherri Lozano has been in the fundraising field for more than 30 years. During that time she has demonstrated a commitments to connect with volunteers and engage in meaningful actions resulting in funds making a huge impact. Sherri is the recipient of the Excellence in Fundraising award for inspiring countless volunteers to take action—especially those volunteers who have made JDRF one of the top national Kansas City organizations.
